Repairs and Maintenance

3 min read

Important repairs and regular maintenance being carried out at our Landbeach site.

Magpie, Atkins, Dodd’s & Leland Water.

Our club is run and maintained by our committee members and volunteers, we do use contractors as when the need arises.

Large trees as pictured do require a professional contractor

Once the tree had been felled it was cut into small logs for firewood.

This just one of many trees that are unsafe due to age or desease.

To help improve oxygen levels in the lakes, trees and hedges are either removed or trimmed to allow wind to blow across the lakes.

Trees close to the edge of the lakes also take a lot of water.

Pictures below showing the planned work to help to improve the conditions on the lake.

More work including removal of trees from the islands on Leland Water as well.

All this work is to improve water quality, reducing the risk of tackle being snagged, also looking after the wellbeing of the fish for our members to enjoy the sport.

Lillies and weed on Leland over the last two years has increased dramatically due to two very warm summers with crystal clear water giving ideal conditions for both to grow.

We have looked at various ways and have contacted various companies to see if we can remove the Lillies and Weed but these have been either very costly and with no gaurantee that they would not grow back. So unless we can find another way we will continue with the current treatment every year.

Swim platforms etc. also need attention now and again to maintain safety when in use.

Pictures below show just a few of the swims needing to be repaired.

We have invested a cosiderable amout of income on equipment in order to maintain our site.

Electricity costs alone on average are around £350.00 per month.

On average monthly costs are over £2000.00.

We are also very grateful for the donation of heavy plant and equipment free of charge e.g. a long a reach Digger/JCB from Kevin Johnson when the level of work is not possible with the equipment from John our fisheries manager.

Lost fishing tackle also has to be recovered in particular from Magpie & Atkins lakes from the Islands, this is a very time consuming and unpopular maintainance task as we may have to close the lake.

Please take care when casting, if you should miscast please report it. If you cannot find anyone to report it to, PLEASE leave a note at the Portkabin.

Water levels on the lakes for the last two years have been a real concern oxygen levels are checked almost every day.

Water temperatures have been worringly high, particuarlly this year, we had to cancel our open day and on more than one occasion to close all the lakes.

We have added aerators and paddle wheels on Magpie and Atkins lakes already, a further unit has been ordered for Leland Water.

We would ask all who visit members and guests alike to read the rules on the notice boards at the entrance to all of the lakes.

Please ensure you take all rubbish home and recycle where possible.

If you see or hear anti social behaviour please let us know.

If you have pictures you would like to share please send them to our secretary. These with permission could be added our website and Facebook page.
