Welcome to all continuing also to new members to Waterbeach Angling Club thank you very much for your support.
The season from April last year has been our busiest yet with an increase in memberships and day ticket sales.
We have seen some very good catches from all of the lakes including Carp of over 40lb from Leland.
With the cooler weather and increased amount of rain the lakes have become quieter which gives us time to carry out essential maintenance around the site.
In particular the trees that have fallen into Leland Water some are over 20ft tall.
The fallen trees have caused snags in which fish have become entangled in lost line and tackle in these snags resulting in fish being lost.
These snags are being removed to avoid further loss of fish and other wildlife.
Some of this is very heavy work requiring not just the removal from the lake but also then cutting the trees up and transporting to be destroyed.
A serious amount of the clubs income has been invested purchasing new equipment to maintain the site.
Work continues until all of these snags have been removed using the tools and equipment necessary to keep the site maintained.
If you have some spare time and could offer some support with the essential maintaining of the site please speak to John Dyer,
Les Beecroft or myself Steve Pearson.
We would ask all who visit our waters to be mindful of the rules that apply, these are being broken far too often.
Failure to comply will result in the offender being asked to leave and possibly the cancellation of their membership.
We would also like to remind everyone about the times of opening and closing of the Lakes in Landbeach.
People are on site before 7am and after 8pm please do not arrive before 7am and be off the site by 7pm latest.
If this is not adhered to a gate may be installed to enforce the opening & closing times. Winter times are 8am – 4pm - Nov 1st – Mar 31st
Important notice regarding Bio Security
Diseases and invasive non-native species pose a huge threat to fisheries and aquatic systems.
Prevention of introduction is clearly better (and cheaper) than cure.
Maintaining good biosecurity is essential in reducing the risk of disease and invasive species introduction.
We have received a grant from the Angling Trust of 50% towards the cost of replacing the landing nets and unhooking mats.
It is vitally important that these are used at all times and your own must not be used.
Please could all Leland members and their guests ensure their nets etc are clean and dry.
If you have been fishing at other sites please take extra care.
Waterbeach Angling Club would like to wish you all the very best for the New Year.
If you have any concerns or items you would like to be raised or added to our News Letters please contact us.
